I had DPM 2010 agent installed and working. The uninstall crashed part way through. I want to reinstall the agent so I can backup this server again. '
Question: What do I have to delete manually to make the installer think that there is not already an agent installed?

I have DPM 2010 RTM installed and running and protecting a dozen servers. Once day I noticed that one was not communicating with the agent. After much effort I found an seemingly undocumented error trying to start DPMRA service on the protected server. Here is what I did: The protected computer is 2008 64-bit.
-Tried to uninstall the agent via the DPM manager. It couldnt' communicate so it failed.
-Tried to uninstall the agent from the protected computer add/remove window. It started a removal then hung the uninstaller part way through the uninstaller. The next morning I gave up, killed the process, and tried to log off the user. The log off process hung a whole day and I finally killed power. All network services were still working perfectly when I killed power. The server is now back up normally and everything is working fine.
-However, the agent services still showed in the services mmc but the add/remove programs item was gone.
-I tried to use the command line to reinstall the agent but it failed saying it was already installed.
-I removed the program filesdata protection manager folder tree.
-removed windowssystem32dpm*
-Removed HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Data Protection Manager
-removed HKLM/Current control set/services/DPM*
-It still said it was already installed when i tried to reinstall from command line.
-searched the registry for data protection manager and removed all entries (within reason. nothing that wasn't a service definition or didn't have a path pointing to the program folder)
-carefully searched for DPM and removed all directly related DPM entries (pointing to program filesdpm etc., DPMRA etc.)
-removed LEGACY_DPM* registry entries
now the installer is telling me I have a previous version that's too old to upgrade. Full DPM log posted below:
